Most people have no idea what goes into breeding healthy, happy, well cared for pups. It all starts in the beginning with buying a great dog to start with (Rosie). Then training and socializing that dog while it grows up. When the dog is two years old you can then test it for all health clearances. My dogs have the hips, eyes, elbows, EIC, and CNM clearances. If your dog is clear of all those things is time to find her and mate. I chose Mergansers Abram Tank MH.
The dogs were breed the end April and the pups were born on July 1 and 2 it was a long labor! We lost 1 but we have 5 healthy pups...2 boys and 3 girls. Whelping a litter of pups is quite and experience but also very tiring and stressful. Fortunately Rosie and I survived! Besides take care of mom and pups the pups need their dewclaws off at 3 days (done), deformed at 2 weeks (done), 4 weeks, and six weeks. I also had to register the litter with the American Kennel Club (AKC). At 8 weeks the pups will get health checks, vaccines, and microchips.
For the time being I am just watching as the cute little pups grow almost before my very eyes (this is the fun part). I am also taking lots of pictures and video. Friends are coming to visit them as well as their future owners. One person is even flying in from Chicago to meet her new pup, then at 8 weeks he will be flying home with her.
I can't wait till they get a little older and I can take them outside! :-)

Dogs show skills: Super Retriever Field Trials run through Sunday locally
