Gussi's 8th Birthday
Monday February 28, 2011 05:34pm

My first Hunt Test dog Gussi was eight on February 27th. Gussi and I have been thru a lot of training, trialing, and life over that last eight years! So of coarse I needed to celebrate her 8th birthday!!! So I invited a few friends and we went to the Lucky Labrador Brew Pub where Gussi could join us for lunch and we could have a beer. I have also wanted to visit Fido's indoor dog park in Portland, Oregon so I thought I would take Gussi there after lunch. Gussi LOVED Fidos! She played in the pool. Ran in the park, stealing others dog's balls but taking them back to their owners. She played so hard, and would have continued but I had to make her stop and relax. After relaxing for a bit Gussi went swimming one more time and then we headed home.
Also on Gussi's birthday she gets a pup cake and gets to help me make it which is her favorite!!! The pup cake is fun and easy to make and to be honest it doesn't taste that bad! The recipe is as follows:
Pup Cakes
1 large apple
1 1/2 cups wheat flour (I use regular flour)
1/4 cup oatmeal
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 tbls honey
2 eggs
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
Frosting
I just mix some honey and a little milk with some room temperature cream cheese until it is icing consistency. After icing the cake I sometimes decorate it with dog food or dog cookies.
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Grease 7x11 Pyrex pan.
Core, slice and mince apple, set aside. In large bowl, mix flour, oatmeal, baking powder, and baking soda. In medium bowl blend together the yogurt, water, oil, honey and eggs. Then stir in the apple and cheese. Add to flour mixture and stir until mixed.
Pour into Pyrex pan. Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Let the cake rest a few minutes and then remove from pan to cool.
Cool cake and decorate if desired.
Your dog will love this on their birthday or anytime. For more dog food recipes visit my friends blog "Chew on This"

I made a pup cake for my dogs and it didn't even make it off the counter before my dogs were trying to eat it. Once they did eat it they acted like it was the best treat in the world!
