Rogue Retrievers Hunt Test Boarding School

For clients in the Pacific Northwest, this boarding school program allows you to drive your Retriever to my training facility within a few hours. When bringing dogs from other states, it is neccesary to plan for air travel via a commercial flight. You can accompany your dog on the flight, or send your dog alone and Rogue Retrievers will arrange to pick up your dog at the Portland International Airport (PDX). Because requirements for pet travel vary and may change with no prior notice, clients should contact their airline of choice well in advance of the intended travel date for that airline’s specific pet travel/shipping restrictions, requirements, fees and reservations. Most airlines observe temperature and seasonal embargoes for pets traveling as checked baggage or cargo. Please check with your airline for current information. You can find a list of airlines that accomodate pet travel and other pertinent information provided by the AKC here.

Puppy Head Start and Hunt Test Introduction Boarding School Program

Puppy Head Start is just what the name entails a "Head Start" for your retriever puppy making future training so much easier and faster.  Wether I do the training or you do it yourself, puppy head start is essential for competitive retrievers.  This program is for retriever puppies under 5 months. Training can be for a few months or a week here and there.

I work with every retriever puppy as if it is my own ensuring your pup will make an excellent AKC or UKC hunt test competitor as well as a great family pet. During your retriever puppies stay with me, your puppy will be introduced to: water (weather permitting), birds (pigeons for smaller puppies or ducks for bigger puppies) , and gun fire. Marking skills are also taught along with  dog obedience.  Depending on the age of your puppy some of the initial Force Fetch process can be taught by what I a like to call "Happy Hold" and "Happy Fetch".

Besides retriever training, your puppy will be socialized with other people, children and appropriate dogs. Potty training and crate training will also be taught.  To discuss availability and a retriever training program for your new puppy call 503 522 9896 or email adrienne@rogueretrievers.com.

Hunt Test Foundation Training Boarding School Program

(Force Fetch)

Foundation training is for dogs 6 months and older and is a 3 month commitment.  This basic program is focused on obtaining an AKC Junior Title and/or UKC Started Title.  It can also be the foundation for any future training.

Your retriever will be taught to hold and be force fetched ensuring a great retrieve and delivery to hand.  Your retriever will be taught to mark on land and water as well as introduced to gun fire and to birds.  Your retriever will also be water forced and shore broke.  Depending on how quick your retriever excels in this program beginning handling will also be taught.

Owners are strongly encouraged to participate in the training as much a possible.  The more time you as a dog handler can put into your retriever while it is in training and back at home will determine the long term out come of your bird hunting companion.  AKC Hunt Test competition owner handling skills will also be taught ensuring a successful transition from "training" to "trialing".

The number of dogs training, at one time, is limited ensuring your retriever gets the time and training they deserve. Because of the limited number of dogs call 503 522 9896 or email adrienne@rogueretrievers.com for availability or to be added to a wait list.

Advanced Hunt Test Training Boarding School Program

(AKC/UKC Senior and Master Level Training)

Advanced Hunt Test training is for someone that wants an EXCELLENT hunting partner or wants to compete with their dog in AKC Hunt Tests.   A lot of time and commitment is needed from both dog and owner to excel at this program.

After retrievers are force fetched they are then trained to handle in a process of drills. When your retriever can successfully run a T-Drill (handling drill) initial blind training begins.  Dogs are taught sight blinds and memory blinds.  When your retriever can run a decent land blind then they are taught to run water blinds.  These skills are again built upon by introducing marks to the blinds.

While training your retriever to handle, they will also continue to focus on field work.  Multiple marking will be taught, doubles, and triples.  Retrievers are also water forced and shore broke.

Owners are STRONGLY encouraged to work with me and their dogs on a regular basis.  Skills will be taught to the owners as well as the dogs.  This way owners and dogs will be a successful team.
Adrienne Hardin and one of her successful retrievers that graduated from hunt test training oregon.
When it comes time to run your dog in an AKC or UKC Hunt Test I can do it for you for a handling fee or you can handle your own dog.  If you choose to handle your own do we will spend working on your handling skills making you and your dog a  competitive team.

Advanced training is very involved call 503 522 9896 or email adrienne@rogueretrievers.com and we can discuss the benefits of advanced training for you and your retriever.

Cape Region assists homeless man, dog

Area residents have pooled funds to help a homeless man and his dog stay at a local motel, but one fundraiser cautions it's only temporary.
